Hi, my name is Sloan and I am the owner of The Wooden Horse. I grew up in the neighboring town of Saratoga and have fond memories of my family visits to the Wooden Horse; I even have pictures of me Christmas caroling in front of the original store in Old Town Los Gatos. I vividly remember the store layout, especially the rock section where I would study each of the different rocks on display. I would tell my mom that I wanted to buy the ENTIRE store.

Well, some thirty years later or so my husband, Kevin and I did buy the entire store. After 12 years, I left my career in corporate human resources to run what I feel is the most special and magical toy store. This has been one of the most rewarding decisions I have ever made. Kevin and I have two children, a twelve-year old daughter and a three-year old son who are very helpful when it comes to toy testing. I am very proud to own The Wooden Horse. It is not only a fun job, but it is an important resource for our wonderful community and its children.

I have learned so much about childhood development, what is a good, safe, toy and the entire specialty toy industry while working here and being mentored by the founder, Karen Scarvie and her husband Bill. What I love the most is that our store will help create life long, special memories for children, just like it did for me.

Out of the thousands of products we carry in the store, it is hard to pick just a few of my favorites but here are some that stand out for me. The German designed cars by Automoblox are a very high-quality wood vehicle with an sleek, modern design. It has pieces that can be taken apart and rebuilt and it also has a shape sorter. My three-year old son plays with his constantly. I also think the Silkscapes by Sarah's Silks are beautiful and very open ended. Kids can use them as capes, canopies or anything else they can imagine. And just for fun, the stomp rockets are a great way for the children to go outside and get active. Plus they are amazed to see how far and fast they can send off their rockets!
